Three Covid-19 patients die in Enugu yesterday as the surge of the cases in the South East region shows no signs of a letup.

The Coal City State alone recorded 66 new confirmed cases, the worst in the region yesterday.

This number enabled Enugu to zoom past Abia and Imo to occupy second place, behind Ebonyi in the number of cases announced last night by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

New cases in the region were also reported for Imo (20) and Abia (10) while there were none found in Anambra and Ebonyi.

The number of cases in the region has now risen to 1,510, with 30 deaths and 797 recoveries. This number is five percent of the 26,484 cases reported in Nigeria as at 1 July 2020.

On the 1st of July 2020, NCDC confirmed that there were 790 new Covid-19 cases and 13 deaths recorded in Nigeria

Till date, 26484 cases have been confirmed, 10152 cases have been discharged and 603 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory

The 790 new cases are reported from 21 states- Delta (166), Lagos (120), Enugu (66), FCT (65), Edo(60), Ogun(43), Kano(41), Kaduna(39), Ondo(33), Rivers(32), Bayelsa(29), Katsina(21), Imo(20), Kwara(18), Oyo(11), Abia(10), Benue(6), Gombe(4), Yobe(2), Bauchi(2), Kebbi(2)
