Dr. Ngene sees easing off lockdown regime as a looming catastrophe because many still think that Covid 19 is a hoax.

I cannot be part of the celebration; no sane fellow would fathom the celebration, when it is glaringly obvious that the relaxation of lockdown is a license to commit suicide, mass suicide.

Ignorant Nigerians are celebrating the easing off of the lockdown which starts tomorrow, Monday 4 May 2020 without knowing that its not in our best interest.

I can’t see the sense or logic behind such intention. This is because since the lockdown, we’ve been experiencing an increase in the number of infections. What this simply means is that we’ve not made the desired progress in our containment effort or programme.

Let us face the truth. Developed countries like America, France, the UK and Italy have not been able to contain the corona virus. It has been killing their citizens in great numbers; in hundreds and thousands. What sense does it make for us to pretend that we can do better at containment when our citizens are allowed to mingle freely?

I cannot be part of those celebrating this thoughtless policy. It doesn’t make sense at all, giving opportunity to the dreaded scourge to gain ground and kill our ignorant brothers and sisters.

I have taken time to study and understand the character of Coronavirus. The most effective method of halting its spread is by breaking the chain of transmission and this is best achieved when human to human contact is drastically curtailed. What benefit will it therefore be to us as a nation if we ignorantly allow our citizens to move about, contact the virus and return home to infect whole families and entire neighbourhoods with slim or zero chance of survival?

I cannot be part of the celebration; no sane fellow would fathom the celebration, when it is glaringly obvious that the relaxation of lockdown is a license to commit suicide, mass suicide.
