The dreaded Covid-19 has tainted Aso Rock, the seat of power in Nigeria, with the announcement that a presidential power broker, Abba Kyari, has tested positive to the virus.

The announcement came on the heels of panic measures introduced by the Presidency last night, including indefinite suspension of Cabinet meetings and closure of Nigeria’s land borders.

Kyari, the chief of staff to the president, is considered by many as the power behind the throne.

He was said to have returned from Germany a few days ago after discussions with a power and communications firm, Siemens, on power projects in the country.

President Buhari meanwhile has subjected himself to a test which came out negative.

The announcement means that Nigeria’s seat of power will now be on lock down.

It remains to be seen whether the presidential household will be whisked away to a safe destination, pending a thorough sanitation of the facility.
