The National Youth Leader of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Sunny Ude-Okoye has thanked Nigerians for their prayers and support which facilitated his early release by kidnappers that ambushed and seized him and a farm staff at Agbogugu in Awgu LGA of Enugu State.

In a press release, he said he was on his way from the farm when gun wielding bandits started shooting and, in his attempt to get away from them, his car fell into a ditch.

“Fortunately, and glory to God, no one was hurt during the attack,” he said.

Ude-Okoye, had served as a former leader and influential member of the Enugu State House of Assembly before his election to the PDP National Executive Council,  

The rest of the statement which he released on Facebook by 5.00 p.m. today, 4 September 2019, is reproduced below:

“I was on my way from my farm in my village Agbogugu, when the incident happened. During the attack, my car fell into a ditch in my attempt to escape from the assailants.

“During my ordeal, Nigerians rose up in one accord to demand for my release.

“I am grateful for the show of love from the Nigerian people, the authorities, both Federal, State and local for their efforts in securing my release.

“I am particularly grateful to the people, government and governor of Enugu State; His Excellency Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the leadership of my party; the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the people of my community Agbogugu, the security agencies, the press and the good people of Nigeria.

“Many individuals showed concerns and goodwill during my travail and did their best to secure my early release. For this, I am grateful.

“I use this medium to appreciate everyone for their prayers and effort towards my freedom.

“As a people and a nation, we must stand up to confront the menace of insecurity bedeviling our country. Efforts must be put in place to strengthen our security and safeguard the lives and properties of Nigerians, because securing our people is sacrosanct. It is a duty we owe ourselves as a nation.”

“In the final analysis, I give all glory and honour to God Almighty for His mercies and protection even in the hands of the kidnappers. My gratitude is eternal.”
