Abia State PDP primaries delegates pick Okey Ahiwe, former chief of staff to Gov Okezie Ikpeazu, as governorship candidate.

About Ahiwe

The primaries took place in Umuahia yesterday Saturday 4 February 2023, a month to the election.

Ahaiwe who is 56 years old replaces substantive candidate, Prof Ikonne who died last week in Abuja.

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki who supervised the election announced that Ahaiwe polled 469 votes to beat his closest rivals.

His is one vote better than Prof Ikonne who got 468 votes to win the May 2022 Abia PDP primaries.

Ahiwe defeated current Deputy Governor Ude Oko-Chukwu, and Lucky Igbokwe, who scored 12 votes each.

A total of 12 votes were invalidated, out of 516 votes cast during the delegates elections.

The victorious candidate promised that, if elected, he will deploy his private and public sector experiences to develop the state.

About Okey Ahaiwe

Chief Okey Ahiwe became Chief of Staff less than a year ago, following the resignation of Prof ACB Agbazuere.

Born on 26 December 1966, Chief Ahiwe is the founding president of Ngwa Patriots Forum. A native of Umuire Village in Eziama Ntigha Community of Isiala-Ngwa North LGA, he had his basic education in  Ntigha and Umuahia.

Ahiwe studied Political Science at the University of Lagos and followed up with a master degree in the same discipline at Abia State University. 

He attended international trainings, conferences, workshops and peer-review programmes. The courses range from administration, project, business, and financial management, quality assurance, and leadership development to alternative dispute resolution.

Ahiwe founded Ambrokah Investments Ltd and Powertrim Nigeria Ltd both of which play in the maritime sub-sector of the oil and gas industry.

He is married to Nnenna and the couple is blessed with five children. He is a Knight of St. John’s International (KSJI) and has been honoured with numerous chieftaincy titles, including, Ugomba Eziama Ntigha. He reads memoirs and plays table tennis in his leisure time.
