Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello
Bandits in the early hours of this morning staged a daredevil kidnap of the Niger State Information Commissioner.
The bandits trailed the Commissioner, Alhaji Muhammed Sanni Idris, to his hometown, Baban Tunga in Tofa LGA where he was abducted.
Secretary to the Niger State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, confirmed the sad development.
“He was kidnapped in the early hours of today around 1.00 a.m. at Baban Tunga,” he told newsmen.
Analysts wonder whether the bandits kidnap of the Information Commissioner serves notice of their intention to target top government officials going forward.
They have hitherto concentrated on picking up hundreds of innocent school children and subjecting they and their parents to emotional pressure.
The Northern bandits have also targeted traditional rulers from various states.
Their latest was the Emir of Kajuru in Kaduna State, abducted alongside a dozen other relatives.
