Prof Bart Nnaji’s major focus right now is the development of his energy business, not partisan politics, says an aide.
Nnaji’s spokesperson, Chijioke Ogbodo, dismissed suggestions that his principal struggled for governorship ticket of Labour Party in Enugu State.
This was in reaction to social media prattle that he contested with Hon Chijioke Edeoga for the ticket but lost.
“I would like to state categorically that Professor Nnaji is not a member of the Labour Party,” Ogbodo said.
“Therefore, there is no way he could have possibly participated in a struggle for the party’s ticket for any office.
“His preoccupation right now is the development of the electric power sector…
“It is, to repeat, a stretch to allege that Professor Nnaji is a member of the Labour Party, let alone contest unsuccessfully for the party’s gubernatorial ticket.
“The public is urged to ignore the false report,” Ogbodo said in a statement he released today, 7 July 2022.
Ogbodo implied that Nnaji was disturbed by people calling from all over the world to ascertain what happened.
Both Prof Nnaji and Hon Edeoga contested and lost the highly manipulated Enugu PDP governorship primaries.
‘Manipulated primaries’
Most aspirants who spoke to Enugu Metro expressed disgust that the party leadership took them on a wild goose chase.
There were allegations that the state governor actively encouraged many of them to contest the election.
“He actually arranged for me to get the form. He gave me the impression that I was his candidate,” an aspirant who pleaded anonymity said.
The winner of the primaries, Mr Peter Mbah, has frantically reached out to all the embittered aspirants.
“He’s trying to mend fences,” another said.
“He is trying to calm everyone down not to abandon the party.”
Enugu Metro learnt that Prof Nnaji immediately shrugged off the disappointment, which one of the contestants described as “deceit.”
Nnaji said he was done with partisan politics and once again face his power business, another aide said.
The renowned professor of robotics is putting finishing touches on an integrated power project. The project promises uninterrupted electricity supply to Aba, the commercial capital of Abia State.
