Award-winning novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, was yesterday crowned a local chief in her Abba community to honour her literary exploits.
The event took place yesterday, Friday 30 December 2022, at her hometown of Abba in Njikoka LGA of Anambra State.
Adichie’s chieftaincy title of “Odeluwa Abba” roughly translates as “the Abba personage that writes for the world.”
The award is a recognition of how she has put her hometown on the world literary map.
Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo joined several well wishers at the well-attended event.
Her husband of 13 years, Ivara Esege, was also with her at the event.
A self-professed feminist, Adichie writes novels, short stories, and nonfiction.
She has had over 37 literary award nominations, winning 16 of them.
Her most popular works include Purple Hibiscus (2003), Half of a Yellow Sun (2006) and Americanah (2013).
