Senator Chimaroke Nnamani (PDP, Enugu East) disowns party presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and pitches tent with Bola Tinubu of APC.

The former Governor’s name appears as No 350 in the list of members of APC 2023 Presidential Campaign Council.

The list, released today, has President Muhammadu Buhari as head of the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council.

As a member of this Council, Nnamani, a PDP Senator, will campaign for Gov Bola Tinubu, candidate of an opposing party.

Thus, the Senator joins other Southeast political heavyweights in the Council, including Gov Dave Umahi and Sen Rochas Okorocha.

Curiously, the former Enugu Governor is seeking a third term as Senator in his own party, the PDP.

He returned to the Senate in 2019 after Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi welcomed him back from political exile.

The Nkanu-born medical doctor recently made overtures to the opposing party in what analysts interpreted as a desperate self-preservation effort.

Keen watchers of Enugu politics believe Nnamani’s “double game” enables him triumph in the 2023 senatorial election. The outcome of this election has become difficult to predict with any degree of certainty.

Nnamani faces quiet opposition from his constituency from opposition parties. He also fears that the youth resurgence might turn the tide and wash away his third-term ambition.

Enugu Metro previously reported that the decision to cozy up to APC is to avoid federal power used against him.
