The law setting up the body is the Nigerian Institute of Management Establishment Act 2003. It was enacted as an Act of National Assembly on the 19th of June 2003. The law established the Nigerian Institute of Management as a body corporate under that name. NIM determines what standards of knowledge and skill are to be attained by persons seeking to become members of the management profession. It raises those standards and skill from time to time as circumstances may permit. NIM is also empowered to establish and maintain the register of members and to publish from time to time a list of those members. NIM is empowered by the Act to regulate and control the profession of management in all its aspects and ramifications.
