Established by Act 91 of 1992 (Cap P17 LFN 2004), PCN is saddled with the general duty of Registration and licensure of all pharmacists Registration and licensure of pharmaceutical premises (manufacturing, importation, distribution, wholesale, retail, hospital pharmacies) Issuance of permit to pharmacy technicians and registration and licensure of patent and proprietary medicine vendors. In other words, for one to practice as a pharmacist, pharmacy technician, patent medicine vendor or own a pharmaceutical premise in Nigeria, he must be registered with and certified by PCN. It is the duty of PCN to determine the standard of knowledge and skill to be attained by persons seeking to become pharmacists in Nigeria. The council also establishes and maintains a register of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. They secure the publication from time to time of the list of those names as entered in the register. Read Also: NAFDAC State Offices and Contact Details In addition to the above functions, PCN also issues the pharmacist’s oath and code of ethics, appoints pharmaceutical inspectors to ensure the enforcement of the provisions of the law by inspection and monitoring of premises where pharmaceutical endeavors take place.
