This face mask… is a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) designed to protect us and our dear ones … from infectious health hazards, such as COVID-19 and its harmful effects that could include death. So I tell you in plain language and with all the emphasis at my disposal, wear your face mask always and correctly.”

Enugu State Government announced today that it is empowering 30,000 youths to produce personal protective equipment for Covid-19, at a public presentation of one million facemasks produced for distribution to residents of the State.

Deputy Governor, Mrs. Cecilia Ezilo, presided at the public presentation witnessed by representatives of umbrella groups such as State Council of Traditional Rulers, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), and heads of security agencies in the State.

The masks, she said, should be given out freely and should go round the 17 local government council areas for people to don them for protection against Covid-19 in the State.

She also said the state government is happy to have empowered indigenous traders and trained tailors who supplied the fabrics and sewed the masks.

“It is expected that over 30,000 youths will be empowered through the production of the face masks,” she said.

The gifts she said demonstrate Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuany’s “deep empathy and concern for all, especially the vulnerable.”

The public presentation, she said, is also an opportunity to create “awareness on the compulsory use of face masks by residents of the state as well as other precautionary measures aimed at containing the spread of the viral disease.

“Let me reiterate that this face mask that we are being strongly persuaded to wear is a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) designed to protect us and our dear ones and reduce our exposure to contagious and infectious health hazards, such as COVID-19 and its harmful effects that could include death.

“So I tell you in plain language and with all the emphasis at my disposal, wear your face mask always and correctly.”

She advised those who get the masks to always wash and iron them.

Among the special guests that witnessed the presentation were House of Assembly Speaker, Chief Edward Ubosi, Chair of the Council of Traditional Rulers, Igwe Lawrence Agubuzu, and State Chairman of ALGON, Hon. Solomon Onah.
