The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, has predicted that the number of confirmed cases in Nigeria will rise as soon as government increases its testing capacity.

“We are likely to find more cases as we progressively expand our testing capacity, he said in a Television Programme interview which the NCDC later tweeted.

As at 8.00 pm last night, 1 April 2020, there are 174 confirmed cases of Covid-19, infections nationwide with 9 discharged and two recorded deaths.

The numbers were boosted by confirmed cases from Akwa Ibom State, which made a grand entry into states where the virus has now touched with five cases reported. This figure places the state on the 5th position of most reported cases, after Lagos (91), FCT (35), Osun (14), and Oyo (5).

At yesterday’s daily press briefing by the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 Control, Health Minister Osagie Ehanire said government’s primary strategy is to work with states to identify cases and their contacts for isolation and treatment.
