Enugu apprehends, returns Covid-19 case to Delta

Enugu State’s determination to frustrate efforts of Covid-10 infected persons to sneak into Enugu paid off today as an escapee from a Delta Isolation Centre was apprehended and returned to an Asaba Isolation Treatment Centre, after successfully beating security at Anambra State.

Health Commissioner, Dr. Ikechukwu Obi, said it was a joint operation among the State Rapid Response Team on Covid-19, security operatives and officials of Delta State Covid-19 Task Force which took off in hot pursuit of the patient when he skipped from the Centre where he was receiving treatment.

The Commissioner however said that contract tracing to detect who the patient came in contact with has commenced.

Since the case was returned to Delta State, Obi added: that for record purposes, “total cases ever detected in Enugu State remains eight, with six active cases receiving treatment”.

He used the incident to remind citizens of their responsibility to each other to report suspicious cases to the authorities, especially those exhibiting familiar Covid-19 symptoms or someone with a history of cross border travel into the State.
