June 2020 is the worst month for Covid-19 infections and death in Nigeria with 15,531 new cases recorded nationwide. There are no signs of a letup in sight of the deadly disease that first broke out in China.

Over 300 persons have so far died, a figure that is more than all deaths in the previous months since the virus made a landfall in Nigeria.

New cases reported in the month of June surpassed all other months since February

While Nigeria reported 10,163 total cases at the end of May, the June figure at 15, 532 make it one and a half times the number.

The number of people who died from the virus also doubled in the Month of June.

Of the 25,694 cases so far reported in Nigeria, almost 40 percent recovered and have been discharged, according to the figures released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

NCDC announced last night that 561 new cases were confirmed and that 17 deaths were recorded in Nigeria in one day.

The 561 new cases are reported from 19 states- Lagos (200), Edo (119), Kaduna (52), FCT (52), Niger (32), Ogun (19), Ondo (16), Imo (14), Plateau (11), Abia (8), Oyo (8), Bayelsa (7), Katsina (6),Kano (5), Bauchi (3), Osun (3), Kebbi (3), Borno (2), Jigawa (1)

South East

Figures reported by States in the South East region also followed the national averages, with a spike in cases noticed for June.

The State have recorded 1,414 cases out of which 27 have succumbed to the illness.

The dead came from Anambra (9), Enugu and Imo (6 each), and Ebonyi and Abia (3 each).
