The number of cases of Covid19 infections in Nigeria has now risen to 3,912, with the 386 new cases announced yesterday 8 May 2020 by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Included in this number are two cases from the South East states of Enugu and Imo which has pushed the the number of infections in the region to 23 with Enugu having the highest share of 10 cases reported to date.

Enugu State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Ikechukwu Obi, said in a statement yesterday that the lone case from Enugu contracted the disease from the third identified case.

Nationwide, more cases were discharged (78) than at any other time this month, although the number of deaths dramatically iincreased from five to 10, the second highest in the month. Lagos State discharged 42 of the cases.

The numbers from the South West region account for 48 percent of reported cases, boosted mainly by Lagos, the epicentre of the disease, at 165 cases that were confurmed yesterday.

Other big numbers came from Katsina (31), FCT (20), Borno (17), Bauchi (15), Nasarawa (14) and Plateau (10).

States that reported under 10 cases of Covid-19 infections include Oyo, Sokoto and 4-Rivers (4 each), Kaduna (3), Edo, Ebonyi and Ondo (2 each) and Enugu, Imo, Gombe and Osun (1 each).
