Covid19: SE flatenning out as Enugu State leads the pack of new infections for the region in the past week

This comes as good news for visitors and residents of the south east region. The rate of spread of the Coronavirus has continued on a downward trend for three weeks running.

Covid19 infection rate in the South East continues to flatten out last week as the region recorded only 184 cases.

Enugu Metro checks however show that Enugu State accounted for 61 percent of new infections last week.

On a positive note, the state did record the highest number of recoveries as well, followed by Abia, Ebonyi and Imo.

No patient was discharged from Anambra, which recorded the second highest number of new cases.

In the penultimate week, Anambra and Abia recorded the most cases, indicating a slight increases for Anambra in two weeks.

As happened the previous week, two deaths were recorded throughout the region, one each for Abia and Imo States.

The search for a vaccine to stem the incidence of the disease continues worldwide.

Director General of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, says the country is working with the African Union on a vaccine strategy to ensure global vaccine access.

“Nigeria delivered life savings vaccines with the eradication of polio and (therefore) has experience in delivering vaccines,” he said.
