Enugu State has been voted the best improved state on ease of doing business in Nigeria, second only to Kaduna State in Nigeria. The latest World Bank index ranking was unveiled last week, in a ceremony where Enugu was presented with a certificate of excellence for its great leap forward.

According to the Bank, whereas Kaduna State improved its ease of doing business score from 55 to 65.97 (10 percentage points), Enugu jumped 11 points from 47 to 56.82 percentage points to place second overall.

Lagos State came third overall behind Enugu (from 48 to 54.9) followed by Abia State (46 to 53.90), and Anambra State which brought up the rear among the top five states, improving her ease of doing business ranking from 47 to 53.50, almost 7 percentage points.

It is noteworthy that three of the five winning states are from the South East Region, leaving the South West and North West to share the remaining two top slots.

The World Bank Ease of Doing Business index measures how easy it is to start a business, register property and obtain construction permits in the 36 states of Nigeria.
