NCDC announces 3,526 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Nigeria, a jump of 381 cases and the highest daily figure reported in one day in the month of May 2020

Enugu State recorded another confirmed case of Coronavirus, raising its total to nine while also breaking the South East two-day clean run, as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced its daily report yesterday 7 May 2020.

NCDC announced a combined total of 3,526 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Nigeria, a jump of 381 cases and the highest daily figure reported in one day in the month of May 2020.

It was, however, not all gloom as number of discharged cases rose to 67 – also the highest in the month – and deaths went down to 4, from 5 that was hitherto recorded for two days running.

In a separate release, Enugu Covid-19 Task Force identified the lone case from the State as a nine-year old child of the fourth case.

“The patient has been admitted into one of our isolation and treatment centres, further contacts are being identified and line listed, and necessary samples will be taken for testing,” Health Commissioner, Dr. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Obi, said in the statement.

With two cases already certified free after treatment and discharged, Enugu has seven active cases that it is managing, the highest number from the South East states.

Yesterday’s report from the NCDC covers 18 states, while the highest incidence states remain in the South West and North West with Lagos (183), Kano (55), and Jigawa (44) taking the top three positions respectively.
Other States that reported more than 10 cases each include Zamfara and Bauchi (19 apiece), and Katsina (11).

The rest of the States include Borno (9), Kwara (8), Kaduna (7), Gombe (6) and Ogun (5).

Apart from Enugu with its lone case, six other States reported under-5 cases and they include Sokoto (4), Oyo (3), Rivers (3), Niger (2) and Akwa Ibom and Plateau (1 each).
