Enugu State Government declares election holiday for Wednesday, 23 February for the local council elections that holds same day.

The State effectively loses two working days this week, as residents continue to observe IPOB’s unfortunate sit-at-home command on Monday.

All markets are to close, movements restricted, and vehicles banned from plying between 8.00a.m. and 4.00p.m, an official said.

The Governor’s adviser on information, Mr. Steve Oruruo, said in a statement that the work-free day enables people to cast their ballot

He encouraged registered voters to take advantage of the restrictions to vote for local government council candidates.

The state government, he said, has “made requisite arrangements to guarantee a hitch-free process.”

Enugu PDP is going into the election with only five of its current serving chairman, having screened out 12 Chairmen at the primaries.

Insiders familiar with the nomination process said the “the exercise was largely teleguided by leaders of the party.”

Consequently, the party used the nomination exercise to tactically weed out LG chairmen considered as “weak,” or “compromised.”

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi leads the campaign expected to return all PDP candiates into power or office.
