Enugu State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Anthony Ugochukwu, has passed on, according to checks conducted this morning by eMetro News.

The Commissioner died last night at the Memfy’s Hospital, Pocket Layout here in Enugu, after a protracted illness.

Prof. Ugochukwu had taken ill shortly after assuming office and was rushed abroad by the State Government for treatment.

He returned to the country after his initial treatment, and long before the Covid-19 crisis, and was using local hospitals to manage his illness, which nature was not disclosed.

His health incapacitation resulted to the leadership of the Covid-19 Task Force passing on to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Ifeanyi Agusiobi.

Until his appointment into the Enugu State cabinet, Prof. Ugochukwu was the Provost of the College of Medicine, Enugu State University of Technology.
