All schools in Enugu State will be shut and pupils and student sent him not later than tomorrow, Saturday 20 March, the State Government has directed.

A statement by the Secretary to the Government , Prof. Simon Ortuanya, enjoined teachers and students as they go home to continue to observe the School Water Sanitization and Hygiene Programme (WASH) operative in the state as well as other standard personal hygiene protocol for prevention of COVID-19 infection. 

Government said the directive to close the schools was part of the swift measures it is putting in place to shied citizens against the ravaging Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) which has now killed almost 10,000 persons worldwide.

Owners and heads of schools in Enugu State were therefore directed to “conclude all activities in their various schools and shut down on or before Friday, March 27, 2020.”

The death toll in Nigeria, as at today 19 March, remains zero, although the infection rate has climbed to 12.
