Enugu State Government transfers its brand new modern Diagnostic Centre on 2 May 2023 to the Federal Government.

Gov Ugwuanyi will perform the official handover to the National Sovereign Wealth Investment Authority (NSIA), officials said.

Enugu State Health Commissioner, Dr. Obi Emmanuel Ikechukwu, has invited stakeholders to the formal handover event next week.

According to him, the Enugu State Medical Diagnostic Center is first to be operationalized by NSIA.

It serves as “a pivotal center in the southeast for provision of comprehensive medical diagnostic and cancer treatments services.”

The service targets people with the need from Enugu state and beyond, Dr. Obi said,

The takeover agreement

NSIA signed a takeover agreement of the Cenrre with Enugu State Government in September 2022 in Abuja FCT.

Deputy Governor, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, represented the state and signed the agreement with NSIA boss, Mr. Uche Orji. The signing event took place at the Kano Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja

The agreement allows NSIA to provide “comprehensive medical, diagnostic and oncology (cancer) treatment services” to Enugu State and beyond.

Besides Enugu, NSIA also signed takeover agreements with Kwara and Kaduna States. The three were more proactive in the negotiations, Orji said.

NSIA plans to build or upgrade the facilities to modern medical diagnostic centres to provide advanced healthcare services to lower income families.

The target customers are people with limited access to care, he said at the occasion. The goal is to significantly enhance Nigeria’s ability to treat life threatening Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).”

NSIA’s healthcare development and investment arm plans to create 23 new modern medical diagnostic centres of excellence across Nigeria. The Authority will equally construct two oncology centres and six cath lab across Nigeria.

The Enugu Diagnostic Centre

The Centre is renamed Medical Diagnostic and Oncology (Cancer) Treatment Centre,” officials said after the event.

Former Governor Sullivan Chime constructed and ordered equipment for the laboratory. However, the equipment his government ordered did not arrive before he left office.

Gov Ugwuanyi refurbished the Centre and replaced inappropriate equipment that finally arrived long after Mr. Chime left.
