FG drops old NPower beneficiaries to allow for recruitment of 2020 beneficiaries, says Humanitarian Affairs Minister.

Federal Government has served notice of discharge to the first two batches of unemployed youth who are currently enjoying monthly N-Power stipends.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, broke the news in a memo to the beneficiaries, which was also posted on the N-Power website.

She said dropping those who are currently on the payroll will create space to recruit a fresh set of beneficiaries who will be trained in the skills they need to set up businesses.

“In 48 hours, over 1,000,000 million young men and women … submitted applications to participate in the N-Power Programme. That opportunity will be denied them if we do not create the space for them to take part,” she argued.

According to Ms. Farouq, 109,823 beneficiaries have gone on to set up businesses in their various communities after undergoing a training and job experience regimen.

Government hopes to absorb another batch of 400,000 youth through the current effort to recruit into the programme.

Majority of the 400,000 participants who are being cashiered out will continue to remain without jobs even as they lose the monthly stipend that has kept them going for 24 months and more.
