The tech giant, Google, today launched the street view in Enugu and five other cities in Nigeria.
Street View is a technology which is featured in Google Maps and Google Earth and provides interactive pictures from positions along many streets.
Anyone who uses Google Maps in Enugu will therefor be able to see Google pictures taken from streets where the Street View imagery has been made available. On Google Maps, Street View appears as blue lines.
There is always a concern about invasion of privacy through the use of Street View.
In western societies, there has been outrage when pictures from Street View showed men leaving strip clubs, or sunbathers wearing skimpy clothing.
However, users of Street View can flag inappropriate pictures taken and Google will take them down.
Summary: be self conscious when walking the streets of Enugu; Google camera may capture you at an inappropriate corner!
