Our analysis considers how PDP can still win the 2021 Anambra State Governorship elections after the Ihiala supplementary vote is counted.

From Our Updates, Day 4

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may be banking on an interesting pathway to victory, it now appears.

The opposition party pins its hopes on a run-off if it manages to overtake APGA in Ihiala vote tally today.

The PDP candidate has 51,332 votes in the bag but this is 52,624 votes less than the APGA frontrunner’s.

In addition PDP scored the mandatory 25% of votes cast in only 11 local government areas (LGAs). This is however three less than the required 14 which constitute two-third of Anambra’s 21 LGAs.

Thus, winning Ihiala will only move PDP to 12 states, two less than the mandatory requirement.

In the event that the PDP carries Ihiala, and also overtakes the frontrunner in overall number of votes, the game changes.

INEC will then call for a runoff between Val Ozigbo and Chukwuma Soludo.

This is where it gets interesting, because the PDP could enter into an alliance with the other parties to upturn Soludo’s current commanding lead.

How PDP can win Anambra boils down to what happens at the Ihiala polls today.
