…elects first female chairperson
Anambra/Ebonyi/Enugu branch of Manufacturers Association (MAN), makes a gender switch in leadership as it elects Lady Ada ChukwuDozie as chairperson.
Chukwudozie won the election at the branch’s 34th AGM, and becomes the first female and 11th Chairperson of the branch.
Notable personalities, including Ooni of Ife and the wife of a former Senate President, Mrs. Helen Mark, witnessed her election.
In her acceptance speech, Lady Ada asked governments to remember the critical role that MAN plays.
Members of MAN, she said, are in the best position “to revive the sick national economy and create employment.”
“Nigeria’s manufacturing sector has been acknowledge as one of the highest contributors to the other sectors,” she said.
“The sector affects and supports the economy and directly contributes to the GDP and the labour market.
“The manufacturing sector has a multiplier effect on the economy, creates wealth via trade and drives innovation.”
Consequently, she pleaded with government at all levels to give manufacturers enabling support and encouragement.
Ironically, there were no government representatives from the three states of Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi at the event.
Mrs. ChukwuDozie expressed confidence that the manufacturing sector will improve and overcome the country’s present challenges.
She identified some of the challenges as “inconsistent and unfavorable government polices, multiple taxation, poor access to cheaper funding and forex, insecurity and poor infrastructure.”
A combination of local and international events have changed the business environment and impacted negatively on members, she said.
The new MAN leader introduced a six-point agenda for service to the association which she summarised with the acronym MRSMAN.
Industry captains and her well wishers attended the event in their numbers.
