Rangers International Football Club of Enugu was yesterday evening, 17 November 2018, served a shocking home ground defeat at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, by the Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) Football Club of Lagos.

The top 10, after Match Day 3

This lone goal defeat in Match-Day 3 of the Nigeria Professional Football League has pushed the Coal City favourite team out of the top five in the tournament.

The match started at 4.00 p.m. with Referee A. Nura from Zamfara overseeing the action.

Rangers Team was a mix of old and newly recruited players with Saidu Muktawakilu at the goalpost, Tope Olusesi, Chiemeka Nwokeji, Uche John and Isiaka Oladuntoye at the defence line. At the midfield were Tony Shimaga, Ugochukwu Ugwuoke (Sadick Abass 76′) and Chiamaka Madu. Leading the attack was Ifeanyi George with Ibrahim Olawoyin (Dauda Madaki 66′) and Chinonso Eziekwe (Godspower Aniefiok 57′).

For Rangers, it was a sad story of missed opportunities. Chinonso Eziekwe wasted two clear chances of saving face for Rangers in the 39th and 44th minutes, Godspower Aniefiok missed in the 74th minutes but the most let down miss was from Ifeanyi’s header that hit the goalpost in 92nd minutes. Everybody at ‘the Cathedral’ had concluded that Rangers has scored an equaliser.

Most fans were however willing to forgive Rangers, judging that the team played very well today but luck was not on its side.

Fans also hailed MFM Goalkeeper, Folarin Abayomi for being awake and alive to duty right from beginning to end of the match.

The lone goal of the match – which handed victory to the Olukoya boys – came in 45th minutes of play and was scored by Kenedinum Chuks.

Rangers is now placed on 9th position from the League table with 4 points while Plateau United is on top of the League table with 9 points from 3 matches.

Rangers’ next match is on Wednesday at Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt, where she will do battle with Rivers United.

On Sunday, Rangers will again file out at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu scare Akwa Starlets by 4pm.
