On 4 May 2020 – the first day of partial freedom from total lockdown in the epicentres of Covid-19 disease – the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 245 new cases of Covid-19, a total of 17 discharged persons and six deaths

None of the South East States of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo reported a single case, according to the release.

Two of the six persons reported death from the virus are from Lagos State as reported on Twitter by its Health Ministry (@LSMOH).

Eleven States reporting 50 cases and over

Lagos continues to predominate with 76 of the cases reported, although the most worrying surge in numbers are coming from the North West.

At 113 new cases confirmed, the North West accounted for 46 percent of the new cases spread across four states – Katsina (37), Jigawa (32), Kano (23) and Zamfara (1).

The rest of the Nigerian States where Covid-19 cases were confirmed are Borno (18), Edo (10), Bauchi (9), Adamawa (6), Oyo and Ogun (5 each), and one each for Ekiti, Ogun, Benue, and Niger.
