Reuters News Agency has quoted Nigeria’s Health Minister as saying that a Nigerian living in the country is now confirmed to have contracted the Corona Virus.

According to the News Agency, Health Minister Osagie Ehanire said in a tweet this morning, today 9 March 2020, that the Nigerian who is said to have come in contact with the Italian diagnosed with Coronavirus contracted the deadly Chinese virus.

“The new case is an Ogun State contact of the index case, one of 40 persons in isolation being closely monitored,” the health minister reportedly said.

If this turns out to be true, it raises the statistics of people with the disease in Nigeria to 2.

eMetro News has been unable to corroborate the news from either the Minister’s personal handle (@DrEOEhanire) or from his Ministry’s account (@fmohnigeria).

In the meantime, as part of prevention measures for COVID-19, the Government of Nigeria has begun production of hand sanitizers.

Health Ministry officials took to twitter to say that the measure will help control spread of #COVID19 and increase supply to address shortage in Nigeria.

As at this morning, WHO is reporting that over 93,000 persons have been infected worldwide, with deaths from the virus climbing beyond 3,000 persons.

Lagos confirms 2nd case of Coronavirus

The Lagos State Ministry of Health took to Twitter an hour ago to confirm that a second case of Coronavirus infection is now in Nigeria.
