As at 9.30pm of this evening, 5 April 2020, the NCDC has reported 232 confirmed cases of Coronavirus infections in Nigeria, with 18 new cases arising since this morning.

The 18 new cases come from regular states that have been reporting the virus, including Lagos (11), FCT (4), Edo State (2), and Kaduna (1).

Eight more cases were certified free and discharged, bringing the total discharged to 33 while number of deaths from the virus remain at 5.

In a related development, the Nigerian Consulate in New York released the names of three Nigerians who have died in the United States from Covid-19 disease.

They include:

  • A medical practitioner and cleric, Dr. Dr. Calev Anya, from Ohafia in Abia state who contracted the disease while ministering to other cases and died on 1 April.
  • Hajia Laila Abubakar  Ali (60), from Kano state, died at the Lincoln Hospital Bronx, New York on 25 March, and
  • Bassy Offiong (25), a final year Chemical Engineering student in the Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo .
