Nigerian Government announces that unity schools reopen 11 October 2020 to conclude the 2019/2020 academic session.

Education Minister, Adamu Adamu announced today that students of Nigeria’s Unity Schools will resume classes 11 October, after six months of Covid19 lockdown.

Unity schools are high schools run and maintained by the Central Government through the Federal Ministry of Education.

He directed all schools to resume for third term academic session which will last till December 2020.

Adamu advised schools that have not concluded second term examination to round off immediately and commence third term with others.

All students – in junior and senior secondary -classes are to resume on 11 October, he said.

School administrators are to strictly observe COVID-19 protocols to prevent spread among students, the Minister warned.

The order to reopen unity schools enables students grounded by the COVID-19 pandemic to complete the suspended 2019/2020 session.

Unity schools were shut in March 2020 in the wake of the Covid19 virus that made a landfall in Nigeria.

Senior students were however allowed to return in August to write exit examinations, including the West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE).
