Imo State is the only state in Nigeria to have fully discharged all of its 7 cases, a national record as Nigeria witnesses her worst month so far in the crisis.


The number of Covid-19 infections in the South East increased by four cases yesterday as both Enugu and Anambra states reported two cases each, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced last night, 23 May 2020.

This development has pushed the number of cases in the region to 62, with 17 recoveries and no deaths recorded across board.

The region continues to maintain the lowest number of infections and no fatalities since the index case (a couple) was announced for Enugu State on Friday, 27 March 2020’

The Enugu index case was announced exactly one month after Nigeria recorded its index case, an Italian who flew into Lagos from his native country bearing the virus and whose test was confirmed on 28 February.

No death yesterday, but May 2020 is worst month so far

Nationwide, Nigeria got a reprieve yesterday as no deaths were recorded from the disease, NCDC figures reveal.

Another good news is that 176 persons regained their freedom to rejoin their families after they were pronounced full recovered an let go.

The sad news is that, with seven days to the close of the Month, two out of every three Covid-19 cases – as well as deaths – in Nigeria has occurred in the this month of May 2020, making it the worst month so far.

Yesterday’s announcement of 265 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 infections pushed May figures alone to 5,594 cases, almost 75 percent of all cases reported in Nigeria since 28 February 2020.
