The Associated Press (AP) yesterday reported that a Nigerian in his 50s has been diagnosed with the Coronavirus in the Washington DC area of the United States of America.

AP quoting DC Mayor, Muriel Bowser, said the Nigerian passed through the US capital city and tested positive for the virus in the District of Maryland where he is now hospitalized and quarantined.

DC officials said the Nigerian lives in Nigeria but had been staying with family members in Washington recently.

The Nigerian becomes the second case of coronavirus found in the U.S. nation’s capital, the first having also been announced at the same Saturday conference by the Mayor.

The index case for Maryland, according to the Mayor, started exhibiting the symptoms of the virus in late January but was hospitalized only on Thursday, 5 March 2020.

Nineteen people have so far died in the U.S. from the virus while the number of infections have gradually climbed to 400 as at today.
