A former Group Managing Director (GMD) of the national oil company, NNPC, Dr. Joseph Thlama Dawha has died.

He died after a brief illness, NNPC’s head of Group Public Affairs, Dr. Kennie Obateru, said in a statement today.

Dr. Dawha was overall boss of the NNPC for a period of one year, between August 2014 and August 2015.

Current Group Managing Director, Mallam Mele Kyari, expressed shock over the sudden death of the NNPC’s 16th Group Managing Director.

NNPC loses its second former GMD in two months, following the passage of another former GMD, Dr. Maikanti Kacalla Baru.

Baru, a mechanical engineer, died after a brief illness, as also announced by Dr. Obateru in a 30 May statement.

Mallam Mele Kyari had expressed shock over the sudden death of Dr. Baru at an Abuja hospital after a brief illness.
