People’s Democratic Party delegates from Enugu East LGA yesterday, Tuesday 21 January 2020, returned unopposed the former chairman of the Council, Hon. Alex Ugwu, popularly known as Ekwueme, as the party’s chairmanship candidate in the forthcoming local council elections in Enugu State.

The exercise which was overseen by a PDP Electoral Panel led by Hon. Freedom Nnam declared that all 261 accredited delegates supported the candidacy of Hon. Ugwu.

After making a brief speech, the candidate was lifted shoulder high in a dance across the square.

Ugwu thanked God for the victory and expressed his gratitude to party delegates for giving him another opportunity to run the election and to serve after his victory.

He said a better way to show appreciation is through good governance and he will show this in action by actualising “infrastructural and human empowerment agenda” in his second term.

The primary election was attended by PDP chieftains, delegates and ENSIEC observers.
