Former Governor Peter Obi gathers Anambra State monarchs in Awka to announce that he intends to run for President.

The event also attracted what looked like a State Government endorsement as it was conducted at Government House, Agu Awka.

The former governor confirmed to the monarchs that he is running for President for two major reasons.

Accordingly, his ambition is to fix the Nigerian economy and unite the country as one .

Obi said he intends to contest the 2023 presidential election under the umbrella of People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“I am not contesting because I want a political appointment but to serve this country and unite Nigeria..

“The state of our country is deplorable and the level of insecurity is indeed unfortunate.

“Nigeria has fallen to the lowest ebb in the committee of nation’s and I am the only one that can restore security in Nigeria.

“As President, I want security of lives and property in Borno and Niger states as I want it to be in Onitsha, in Kano and in Ekiti.

“My interest in the presidency of Nigeria is to restore security and revamp our educational sector and also revive the health sector.

“I have seriously studied our country and I have come to discover that all that we need is to ensure security so that foreign and local investments would thrive.”

“I come to serve Nigeria and I am sure of restoring our country and uniting the country because if there is no unity in Nigeria we cannot move ahead.

He likened Anambra to a mini-Nigeria and said anyone who manages well will succeed as president of Nigeria.

“You all know me very well … and you all know what I did as governor of Anambra state,” he said to the royal gathering.

“Anambra is like Nigeria and anybody who is able to manage Anambra state well can successfully manage Nigeria.

“I am calling for your support and I have confidence in you all that you will support me,” he told the royal guests.

The Obi of Onitsha who heads the State’s traditional rulers council was absent at the event. However, his stand-in, Igwe Emma Nnabuife of Okija community, assured the former governor of their goodwill and prayers.

Igwe Nnabuife also promised grassroots endorsement from the 177 autonomous communities of Anambra State.

“We need no other person but him and the Igbos have endorsed Mr Peter Obi as our candidate…” he noted.

The monarchs prayed for success on his aspiration.
