Rangers loses yet again at Okigwe

Rangers 1 – 2 Heartland


Enugu Rangers International FC Enugu last night lost yet again in the ongoing premier football league.

Although at the Okigwe Township Stadium the team scored the first goal against hosts, Heartland FC of Owerri, Rangers nevertheless failed to defend it to the end.

The goal was scored by Traore Issif when a corner kick pulled by Emmanuel Nwokeji landed on his head towards the goalpost but deflected by Ikechukwu Ezenwa and he kicked the ball inside the net in 47th minutes.

Heartland replied in 54 minutes and 85 minutes, courtesy of Abiodun Thomas and Sadiq Abubakar respectively.

Rangers had more than eight clear chances to score but could not utilize any because of the defence line marshaled by goalkeeper and Man of the Match, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, who was on duty for Heartland for 90 minutes. Ezenwa kept like the National Team Goalkeeper that he is.

Rangers has played nine matches and has three more outstanding matches to play.

Next Rangers campaign is a CAF Confederation Cup Group Stage match on 12 January.

The Nigerian representative will be hoping for its first win in the Group Stage as she hosts Nouadhibou of Mauritania at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu by 5pm because of the draw that it was able to pull off in their first meeting.

The Coal City boys have so far played three matches, lost two and drew one.
