US asks Buhari Administration to punish shooters

Record of local and international reactions to President Buhari’s 22 October 2020 #EndSARS speech on shooting of youth protesters in Nigeria

The United States delegation, led by Counselor T. Ulrich Brechbuhl told Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo that shooting unarmed youths was wrong.

“The Counselor express the US condemnation of the use of excessive force by the military forces who fired on unarmed demonstrators in Lagos, the Department of State said in a statement (below).

The US condoled with victims of the shooting and asked the Nigerian government to “hold those responsible accountable under the law.”

In his speech to the nation, the President did not address the victims of the shooting and neither did he admit that there were killings of youths.

He rather expressed sympathies with families of policemen that died.
