Government opens 20 centres to register for NIN in FCT in a bid to decongest crowding at NIMC headquarters.

Spokesperson for National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Kayode Adegoke, said Government ordered management to shut the agency headquarters.

Nigerians decried the decision to lump thousands of persons into one venue, flouting Covid-19 protocols advised by health authorities.

Communications and Digital Economy Minister, Isa Pantami, ordered shut down of NIMC headquarters and opening of 20 alternative registration centres

A sizeable crowd of anxious citizens daily besiege the commission’s headquarters in search of new National Identity Numbers.

NIMC spokesman, Kayode Adegoke, announced the closure of the commission’s headquarters in a statement issued in Abuja.

Besides, the 20 additional centres makes NIN enrolment process much easier for applicants from tomorrow, 18 January 2021, he said.
