The murder of Umuoji community president-general on Friday 23 February heightens citizen worries over such rising PG murders in Anambra State.

Residents suggested that Chief Onyima’s good works and rising profile may have roused the envy of a powerful Umuoji clique.

Chief Sylvester Onyima, President-General of Umuoji Town Union in Idemili North LGA, Anambra State, was found dead in his bathtub.

He had multiple injuries and lay in a pool of his own blood, police said.

The motive for his murder is not clear and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Anambra State Police Command said they are yet to make arrests.

Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga who confirmed Onyima’s death, said the Command deployed detectives to the town to investigate the killing.

“The police are aware of the development. We got the information and we have deployed our men to the area.

“Our men went to the scene when the information got to us; they found the man in a pool of blood.”
