Gov Chukwuma Soludo appoints Osun and Abia State citizens to top civil service positions as permanent secretaries in Anambra State.
The Governor also caused merit-based disruptions by elevating younger, very productive officers of Anambra origin to permanent secretary positions.
The favoured civil servants are Mr. Adebayo Ojeyinka (@adebayoojeyinka) from Osun and Mr. Joachin Achor (@achorjc) from Abia State.
Ojeyinka, hailed by colleagues as Oga Bayo , is a popular civil servant who started his career in Anambra in 1994.
Three years ago, he shared the story of how he stayed back in Awka after rounding up his national service.
He described himself as having reached the top of his career as a director. His interviewer reminded him that there was one more step to go and he laughed.
The State offered Ojeyinka automatic employment as an NYSC State Merit Award winner, and he gladly accepted.
He diligently worked his way to the apex of the profession, mastering the Igbo language to make his task seamless.
He is also a Pastor and talks proudly about preaching his sermons in Igbo.
Appreciation
Ojeyinka expressed excitement at the promotion.
“I don’t see this as a right but rather a rare privilege because so many brilliant officers also merited the promotion.
“I thank Mr. Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, for this honor, and Ndi Anambra for all their love, kindness, and support in my 29 years of living in Anambra state.
He promised to “repay the state with increased efficiency, productivity, transparency, and fairness in my work.”
“I thank my colleagues too the Head of Service, Her Honour, Barrister Mrs Theodora Igwegbe for her wonderful support.
“I promise to live up to the great expectations”.
“The appointments … demonstrate a willingness to tap into talent from all corners of the country,” a local publisher wrote.
Against tradition
“The appointment of Mr. Ojeyinka from Osun State … breaks the traditional practice of reserving top civil service positions for indigenes.
“This move sends a strong message that Anambra is open to all, irrespective of their state of origin,” he said.
