Leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Anyanwu advises Igbo people to stay away from ongoing nationwide protests against economic hardship.

It is important to note that the best thing for us as Igbos is to rally round President Tinubu and to do what we can to enable him complete his tenure.

In a statement he personally signed, Iwuanyanwu said Nigeria usually singles out the Igbo for punishment whenever they follow others to protest.

Additionally, many Igbo youths are in prison with the government refusing to free them after their release by the courts,he said.

Iwuanyanwu also itemized cases of discrimination and marginalisation against the Igbo that make it unwise for them to be joining protests. Among them, he noted a “gang up” to deny the Igbo their turn to produce a President in the 2023 general elections.

Rather than protest the hardship, Iwuanyanwu promised to use Ohanaeze to mobilise the Igbo to support President Bola Tinubu.

He described the current economic crisis in Nigeria as “very unfortunate.” However, he promised to “convene a meeting of Igbo top economists and experts in diverse fields to strategize on how to overcome the hardships.”

“We will also proffer advice to President Tinubu on the economy.

“It is important to note that the best thing for us as Igbos is to rally round President Tinubu and to do what we can to enable him complete his tenure.

“Igbos are opposed to military rule. We prefer a democratic government where we can express our views,” he said.
