Our Plan for 2024
Enugu Metro will partner with readers to change the way we tell our stories in 2024. We’ll feature more neighbourhoods voices. Voices of those in celebration mood, folks in need of support, tips from business owner-managers and professionals, and inspiring stories of men, women, and youths making positive impacts in our communities. We shall share their stories to inspire everyone to win in 2024.
But there is a catch: We can’t really tell these stories without you; they are your stories after all. We can only tell them when we know what is happening, when you let us know. We can also tell them in your own voice. Let’s work together in 2024 to inspire and empower our community with stories that encourage people to survive what is looking like another tough year head.
Before you dive in, we have one small request to make. This project will cost a lot. Will you donate to help us fund this “Reporting for Survival and Laughter” Project in 2024?
Neighbourhood Events
You can help your neighbours to promote their events in Enugu Metro and its multiple channels. Event managers look for people who can help them publicise their events and draw a crowd. If there is an event happening in your community, you can earn extra income by telling us about it, and working with us to publicise such events to achieve success. Sometimes, the only thing you need to do to earn extra income is to connect us with event organisers, venue managers, or venue managers in your neighbourhood. Let’s do this in 2024.

Help people to get jobs
Around your neighbourhood, you will see small jobs advertised on walls, papers, chalkboards, and flyers. The adverts don’t reach far enough for the potential employer to get the best hands. They need to promote the job the advert beyond the neighbourhood. In 2024, we shall be publishing every such advert free of charge, to give them the widest possible reach. How you can help? Are you willing to team up with us to help employers get the best candidates, and give job seekers equal access to job opportunities in 2024?
Report what’s happening
You can become our eyes and ears in your community by sending us information that is of interest to those who live in the Coal City. We accept news or tip-offs about accidents, disasters, robberies, and other unfortunate happenings in our community. We shall go beyond publishing the news to speak to experts about how communities can avoid or manage such incidents. We pay N5,000 or more for significant neighbourhood event accepted and publish. Expose crime and abuses
People who suffer domestic violence are often not willing to talk about it. To make matters worse, those who witness such crimes don’t always want to go to the police to report the criminals and abusers. If you are afraid to go to the police, you can tell us the story in confidence! We will evaluate each story and determine the best way to help the victims – whether to use police and other justice system tools to assist or to publish their stories right away so that others can learn and be vigilant. Where an issue is common to many communities, we shall collaborate with others to dig deeper in an investigative report that exposes the root causes. We also team up philanthropies and NGOs to find sustainable solutions.

Promote impactful people
In 2024, we shall be telling stories of the Coal City through those who lived it and made an impact. We shall tell their stories in birthdays, awards and celebrations. We shall also celebrate people who have passed and who made impact or lived long. People want to learn about what people did to live long, those who are doing great things in neighbourhoods – neighbours helping neighbours, big people doing things to make life easy for everyone, communities coming together to help themselves in areas of concern, and so forth. You can interview or write about such great personalities, and we shall be happy to publish your voice in Enugu Metro, to encourage others to live right and have a sense of community.

Are you willing to team up with us to tell inspirational stories of people who positively impacted your local neighbourhood in 2024?
Independently investigate
In support of our value proposition, Enugu Metro accepts pitches from local reporters and freelances on stories that touch the heart. Crime and community safety. Gender discrimination and other human rights violations. Environmental challenges. Maternal and child nutrition and health. We accept pitches from interested Enugu-based writers on the focal areas. We want to amplify the voices and perspectives of disadvantaged Coal City people. Interested? We pay for every pitch that we accept, typically between N5,000 (for routine stories) and up to N500,000 (for in-depth investigations), depending on the type of investigation and how much it will cost to dig into it.
