The Supreme Court and NBA (Nigerian Bar Association) mourn the passing of Justice Chima Centus Nweze yesterday, Sunday 30 July 2023.

News of his death filtered in yesterday and was picked up by the media today.

Supreme Court spokesperson Festus Akanbi, said in a statement that the Court was sad to hear the news.

He also announced that the court will observe three days of mourning beginning from today 31st August.

NBA said it received the news with ” “The President of the Nigerian Bar Association has received with “shock and dismay.”

NBA spokesperson, Akorede Lawal, described Nweze as “an astute jurist whose decisions had shaped and impacted the nation’s law and jurisprudence.”

“Hon. Justice Nweze was an astute and erudite jurist. His lordship’s numerous decisions have shaped, impacted, and developed our law and jurisprudence.

“He was a disciplined, hardworking, and courageous judicial officer.”
