The family of the late Commissioner for Health, Enugu State, Prof. Anthony Ugochukwu, formally announced his death this afternoon and disclosed that he died of kidney disease.

A statement signed on behalf of the family by Dr. Kingsley C. Ugochukwu, said the late Commissioner had been battling with “chronic kidney disease”.

The Commissioner died last night at the Memfy’s Hospital, Pocket Layout here in Enugu.

His health deteriorated soon after he took office and he had to be rushed abroad for treatment.

His health incapacitation resulted to the leadership of the Covid-19 Task Force passing on to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Ifeanyi Agusiobi.

Until his appointment into the Enugu State cabinet, Ugochukwu, a noted consultant surgeon and professor of medicine, was Provost of the College of Medicine, Enugu State University of Technology.
