Gov Dave Umahi this morning 31 July wins rematch of All Progressives Congress (APC) Senate primaries for Ebonyi South District.

He beat a field of five challenges that included his younger brother, Austin.

Umpire Prof Emmanuel Adebayo announced that Umahi won 250 of the 268 delegate votes.

His brother posted a paltry 10 votes to finish at second place. However, this was better than the performance of Elizabeth Chukwu, Magareth Ibiam and Ann Agom-Eze.

Adebayo announced that the three female aspirants received eight votes among them.

“Mrs Elizabeth Chukwu polled five votes; Mrs Magareth Ibiam got three votes, while Mrs Ann Agom-Eze scored zero votes.

“Total number of votes cast were 275; total valid votes were 268, while invalid votes were seven,’’ he said.

The APC Senate Primaries took place at the Afikpo North Local Government Council headquarters.

Umahi praised the process as transparent and commended the peaceful conduct of aspirants and delegates alike.

A Federal High Court in Abakaliki, disqualified the Governor and affirmed Agom-Eze as validly nominated.

She placed in second in the original primaries that took place on 28 May. This time around she placed last with zero votes.

The Court however allowed APC to conduct a fresh primaries within 14 days.

Ebonyi State APC chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, promptly scheduled another primaries for today, Sunday 31 July.

Umahi is returning to the ticket after an unsuccessful run for the Presidency.

“APC is rooted in Ebonyi and will surely sweep the electoral stakes at the 2023 general elections,’’ he said after his win.

Agom-Eze returned to court on Wednesday to ask the Federal High Court to allow new aspirants contest the election.
