Joe Attueyi, the Nnewi-born technocrat promotes scholarships for youths interested in learning coding through the academy that he recently launched.

Ten lucky youths will commence in September 2023 a coding skills course aimed at producing entry-level software engineers to serve as front-end and back-end developers. They will not pay any fees for the course, which ordinarily costs £3, 500 in the UK and $1000 or its equivalent in Nigeria.

Their scholarship is courtesy of Mr Joe Attueyi, an accountant and oil and gas technocrat. The Nnewi-born Attueyi carries out serious philanthropic acts quietly but effectively.

The lucky ten winners of the Attueyi Coding Academy scholarship will spend six months under the tutelage of Conclase Academy.  Conclase Academy says the ten scholars “emerged through a thorough screening process.”

Winners of the Attueyi Coding Academy Cohort 4 scholarships are Loveth Osigwe, Hawa Umoru, Adeoye Oluwapelumi, Henry Iwuagwu, and Onyinye Ezeugenyi. Chizoba Harmony, Abraham Samuel, Joseph Simson, Bernard Iwuoha, and Success Obiefoka are others.

Attueyi spent N65m in 2018 to rebuild the primary school he attended in his village, Utuh, in Nnewi South LG.

His action with the coding academy is based on the philosophical grounding that technology is the future, and we must empower young people for a future of technology. The Attueyi Coding Academy defines its mission as “Preparing Nigerian youths for a Tech dominated future, one code at a time.”

Attueyi Coding Academy positions as “A coding Academy in Enugu, Nigeria, providing virtual and in-person world-class tech education”.

It added: “A large population of young, intelligent, and hardworking people in Nigeria with at least a secondary school education looking to earn a decent living with limited opportunities. The future is Tech. One can create economic value and have a high social impact by providing these young people with the right skills to compete in an IT-dominated future.”

Peter Worthing chairs the Governance Advisory Board of the Attueyi Coding Academy with Esther Attueyi as Secretary. Members include Akinyede Olajide, Alhaji Aliyu Maccido, the Country Manager Uju Okoroafor and Mr Joe Attueyi.
