Canada approves visa-free travel for two African countries which will join 11 others from around the world to enjoy the service.
Passport holders from the 13 countries can now to fly to the land of the maple leaf without procuring a visa before hand.
And no, Nigeria is not one of the countries. Only Morocco in North Africa and Seychelles in Southern Africa qualify, Immigration Minister Sean Fraser announced on Tuesday.
The two African nations joined 11 others across the world whose citizens will enjoy the visa-free travel.
Potential travelers will however meet one of two conditions. It is either that they have obtained a Canadian visa in the last 10 years or are holding a current United States non-immigrant visa.
Immigration Canada listed the 13 countries eligible for visa-free entry to include:
- Antigua and Barbuda
- Argentina
- Costa Rica
- Morocco
- Panama
- Philippines
- Seychelles
- St Kitts and Nevis
- St Lucia
- St Vincent and Grenadines
- Thailand
- Trinidad and Tobago
- Uruguay
Fraser listed three benefits of approving visa-free travel to Canada for citizens of the listed countries.
“Introducing visa-free air travel will make it faster, easier, and more affordable for thousands of travellers to visit Canada for up to six months for either business or leisure,” Fraser said in a statement.
“It will also help grow Canada’s economy by facilitating more travel, tourism and international business, and by strengthening Canada’s relationships with these countries while keeping Canadians safe.
“This decision will also divert thousands of applications from Canada’s visa caseload, allowing us to process visa applications more efficiently, which will benefit all visa applicants.
