The Enugu State Government said this evening that it has obtained a court injunction to prevent resident doctors of the State University Teaching Hospital from continuing with their five-day warning strike.

The strike entered its third day today, 3 March 2020, with both government and the association of resident doctors refusing to yield grounds.

In a statement released from Government House today 3 March 2020, the State Government said that the National Industrial Court sitting in Enugu issued the interim order to restrain the ESUT Hospital branch of (ARD) from continuing with the strike.

The statement also disclosed that the Court restrained the Association and its members from taking any further steps on the strike action until it hears and determines a motion on notice filed by the state government against the strikers.

The judge hearing the motion filed by the State Government yesterday 2 March 2020, was given as Justice O.O. Arowosegbe. The case has been adjourned till March 17 for hearing of the substantive motion, the statement concluded.

The Motion for injunction sighted by eMetro was filed yesterday 2 March 2020 by the Enugu State Government against the President and Secretary of ESUT Hospital branch of the association of resident doctors.

The affidavit for the motion was sworn and filed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Ortuanya.

Government is being represented by a Senior Advocate, AI Ani who appeared with Mr. Joseph Omeh to argue the motion for interim injunction.

The ruling also requires the Registrar of the Court to serve the union representatives with the court papers latest by tomorrow, Wednesday 4 March.
